jewelry
project
I had taken a line of jewelry to the Design Biennale that was made
of hand beaten metal and hand formed glass.
This line of
jewelry is the result of a series of workshops, involving glass
bead makers from Varanasi, people who fashion jewelry (put it together)
from Varanasi and Orissa, beaten metal craftspeople from Orissa
and dhokra craftspeople from Orissa.
The idea behind this line was to create something completely unique
(by combining different material), young, light, fun and universal.
To go beyond the ‘ethnic’ look, and create something
that combined the new and the old, the traditional Indian and the
contemporary global. To make a range wide enough to appeal to different
types of people.
The main work was done during a week long residential workshop,
where everyone got together. There were all the craftspeople, some
fashion students from srishti school of art design and technology,
Bangalore, a Spanish sculptor and, the designer. It was a very intense
and creative interaction.
